Samantha Lewis
Mezzo-soprano

Samantha was born in Shropshire and began her singing career as a chorister at St. Oswald’s Parish Church, Oswestry and has since, kept her passion for choral music alive, partaking within choirs such as ‘Ex Cathedra’ under the direction of Jeffery Skidmore. She has also performed as a soloist on numerous occasions alongside nationally acclaimed choirs, such as the ‘Vron’ and the ‘London Welsh Male Voice Choir’, and recently premiered the cantata ‘Gentle Flame’ by Liz Johnson as the Mezzo Soprano soloist.
Samantha gained her MMus Vocal Performance at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire with distinction and has now embarked on the establishment’s Advanced Postgraduate Diploma in Advanced Performance, where she studies under the tutelage of Yvonne Sandison and Paul Wingfield; Samantha was able to obtain a full scholarship for the course, generously provided by The Headley Trust. She has engaged in an array of performance opportunities already, most recently as ‘Hänsel’ in Humperdinck’s ‘Hänsel und Grethel’, ‘Zweite Dame’ in Mozart’s ‘Die Zauberflöte’, ‘Fanny Price’ in Jonathon Dove’s ‘Mansfield Park’, ‘Ottavia’ in Monteverdi’s ‘L’incoronazione di Poppea’, ‘Prospero’ in ‘The Enchanted Island’ compiled by Jeremy Sams and as the winner of The Edward Brooke’s English Song Prize, 2019.
Samantha also has a keen interest in art song and regularly performs recitals with a wide range of repertoire, including but not limited to her favourite composers, such as Purcell, Handel, Brahms, Duparc, Vaughan Williams and Michael Head. Samantha Lewis and Salwan Cartwright-Shamoon perform 'Solas' at the Bradshaw Hall in the Royal Birmingham Conservatorie. 'Solas' was written by a course participant, Helen Douglas, and musically arranged by Salwan.
